SLEEP ZEN !! The accommodation in al the Shukubo is basic but very comfortable and the host is extremely hospitable..
The shukubo is an integral part of the Buddhist monasteries that manage them and there is shukubo etiquette to be acknowledged such as:
removing shoes at the entrance of the temple
wearing modest clothing in the temple
observing the time schedule (dinner, bathing, waking up)
respecting the curfew (some temples lock their doors at night!)
respecting the privacy, calm and quiet of the place
The Shukubo has its own indoor onsen and you can have time for reflection and serenity as you soak at your leisure .
The retreat is vegan and vegetarian friendly
Most meals are included in the retreat and the meals that are prepared in the Buddhist temple (Shojin Ryori) are traditionally vegetarian or vegan. You will have the opportunity to purchase and experience a variety of Japanese or other cuisines.
If you have special dietary requirements it's a good idea to communicate it to us ahead of time, so we can discuss with the Shukubo staff.
